training day number twelve

it has been a few days since my last training due to a family emergency. my pops fell ill and died so it was more than i expected. i was shocked in fact but i'm ok. i have accepted that death is a part of life and through a lot of reading and meditation, i have a different view than most folks i know. i take honor that i was with him when he died and pops was no longer suffering from the pain from his illness. since pops had a new wife and family, they had main responsibility and i was in a supporting role.

today, i was back at work and worked out and had a good run but it was a bit painful after being off a few days. hopefully, the family emergencies are over for this year. though, i really try to take things one day at a time and take life and death as it comes.

training day number eleven

today was a milestone, literally. i hit my first full 3-mile run non-stop. it felt good and best of all i could have run longer. i have signed up for a 3 mile-group run this week. this is in 2 days and is just a fun run with a beer at the end. i'm ready.

on today's run, i was tripped up by a girl and her dog. she was walking with 3 or 4 other women and they were taking all of the path. when i asked them to step aside so i could pass, the little go walked into my way instead of out of it. i almost stepped on her little dog as her leash caught my shoes but i jumped over the damn thing and kept running. i guess they expected me to turn around and see if all was ok but i am training and did not want to. i heard their sassy comments, smiled and ran on. i guess i'm a bub bub bub bitch. (smile)

training day number ten

i had a great week training. with runs on monday, wednesday and friday and gym workouts monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday, i am very proud of myself.

looking back on this week, it only happened by being focused on one day at at time; one moment at a time. i really believe this will have to be my mantra to make this marathon run.

dilemma. on one hand, i need to talk about the marathon with anyone who is interested but when i do, it is easy to go into doubt.  but, talking about "it" gets me going on the training, learning more from others and working through the "to do" list of shit that has to be done to run a freaking race at the outer banks.

then, there is the side of me that is more comfortable not talking to people just because i know it's healthier from experience.

any hooch, i am very lucky to be sitting in a mild rain storm with a beautiful garden surrounding me typing this update one day late. just saying...

friday's stats:

gym: 30 minutes cycle on 13 of 20 manual setting, abs, pushups and stretches 410 calories

run:

duration:  23:30
distance:  2.23 mi
pace:  10:30 min/mi
calories: 238

weight: 188 lbs (i gained for pound; muscle maybe?)

training day number nine

today was hot but i did not let that stop me from doing the right thing and train. i had a good run at a good pace. i tested the time for a run only and that was about where i thought i was doing. at this time, i am running fast enough to qualify for a race. for my age group, that is very good. at this pace, i will be in good shape for my long run in the fall.

i set a weight goal at the beginning of the year. if i made the goal, i promised myself i would get some new clothes that fit. today marks me hitting that goal, yeah. i am glad to hit that goal but i will see about the new pants next week or later. :)

here are today's workout and run stats.

gym: 30 minutes cycle on level 12 out of 20, arms, pushups, abs and stretches - 400 calories
